I
have always been interested in art; whether it was
drawing, oil painting or just working with my hands
sewing.
When
I started pottery, everything else was put aside and my
canvas was decorating my pots.
I
started pottery in Aurora, Colorado when I signed up for
an Adult Education class in pottery. We only had
kick
wheels but I learned some basic techniques that I still
apply today. I also still use pots that I made
when I
first started.
After
I moved to Tacoma, Washington, I took lessons from the
renown potter F. Carlton Ball at "Old Town
Potters" and
then at Tacoma Community College where Carlton Ball
taught pottery. About 12 years ago I added a
studio to my house and branched out on my own.
I
fire to cone 10, 2,345 degrees, porcelain and stoneware,
with glazes I make. All my work is handcrafted on
the wheel,
hand built or a combination of both thrown and hand
built. Each piece is one of a kind, so I can make
similar pieces
but never exactly alike.
All
my pottery is microwave, dishwasher and oven safe and
there is no lead in the glazes. With care my
pottery will
last for many years. Special orders will be
accepted.
