In 1972 I took a beginning pottery course through the Continuing Education Program in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada. I then move up to intermediate and advanced courses and earned a teaching certificate.
I moved to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1974. I worked with the North Victoria Amalgamated School Board to purchase pottery equipment and supplies. I taught beginning, intermediate and wheel techniques. I attended week end workshops in Halifax to enhance my skills. One I particular enjoyed. I was exposed to many new Ideas in a class given by Don Zver.
I move back to my home town, American Falls, Idaho and enrolled in Continuing Education in pottery to learn new techniques and have use of the pottery equipment.
I move to Federal Way in 1982 and joined the Sprinker Potters Guild in Parkland, Washington. I attended many wonderful workshops sponsored by the guild. One very special one was given by Carlton Ball. I was encouraged by the professional potter to sell my work and they felt if was of good quality. In 1983 I received my first business license and have enjoyed making and selling my work ever since.
In 2009 I attended a 4 day workshop in soda firing technique given by Robi Lobell and a 4 day workshop on wood firing and will be taking another wood fired workshop in September 2010 given by Michael McCulloch.
I recently changed my pottery style from production electric fired pottery. I am now experimenting with a different line of gas fired reduction porcelain and stoneware clay. I also have electric kiln fired terra cotta with southwest themes painted on the pieces.
My Artistic Goals:
To view and interpret the world around me and inspire the viewer to a new awareness through my work.
